GIGAN is the brain-child of founding member; multi-instrumentalist and lyric/conceptual mastermind Eric Hersemann. GIGAN’s existence began more than a decade ago in 2005, after Hersemann’s stints in Tampa, FL’s Diabolic and Hate Eternal. Prior to that, Eric’s time was spent sharpening his blades in his hometown of Chicago, IL with the likes of Chicago legends Burnt Offering and Death-Thrash innovators Lord Blasphemer. After writing, recording and releasing GIGAN’s “Footsteps of GIGAN” demo and the first two GIGAN albums (Order of the False Eye on Napalm Records and Quasi-Hallucinogenic Sonic Landscapes on Willowtip Records) in Tampa, Eric relocated to his roots in Chicago and began the writing process for GIGAN’s critically acclaimed masterwork : “Multi-Dimensional Fractal Sorcery and Super-Science”.

“Multi-Dimensional Fractal Sorcery and Super-Science” was recorded with Eric’s longtime partner in crime; engineer Sanford Parker (who has recorded all three GIGAN albums) , and released in October 2013 on Willowtip Records, to almost universal praise and enthusiasm. In addition to worldwide coverage and publicity in the form of interviews and rave reviews, GIGAN has continued to be blessed with amazing touring opportunities both domestically and internationally. Having been a dedicated touring act for ten years GIGAN has been able to bring Hersemann’s twisted visions around the world; much to the delight of GIGAN’s ravenous and open minded fan base. GIGAN has been fortunate to share the stage and tour with Cattle Decapitation, Psyopus, Lightning Swords of Death, Grave, Immolation, Vital Remains, Misery Index, Belphegor, Blood Red Throne, Jungle Rot, Pyrrhon, Artificial Brain and many more. GIGAN’s first foray into the European concert markets saw them on tour with their peers Ulcerate (Relapse Records)and Wormed (Season Of Mist Records) in October 2014. The tour went well enough that GIGAN was immediately invited back to headline a tour of their own in Europe in October 2015! After returning from their second European tour, Hersemann began the most recent writing process and next musical evolution of GIGAN.

“Undulating Waves of Rainbiotic Iridescence”; GIGAN’s fourth full length album, was recorded at Big Bad Sound Studios in Los Angeles, CA in the Spring of 2017 with longtime friend, engineer and ally Sanford Parker. Colin Jordan once again, was in charge of the mastering process. All art and layout was completed by Dr.Winter. The official street date is September 15, 2017!!!

Often imitated but NEVER duplicated, GIGAN has and always will be dedicated to the craft of making the most imaginative, fearless and thought provoking extreme metal in the known Universe!!! THRASH IN SPACE!!!

Formed in 2015, SUNLESS draws influence from pioneers of extreme and dissonant metal such as Gorguts, Ulcerate, and Meshuggah, reinterpreting the sounds through an abstract lens that is all their own. Comprised of bassist Mitch Schooler (Nerves, Modulus), drummer Ben Iburg (Not From Here, The Eye Unclouded), and guitarist/vocalist Lucas Scott (Australis, Pestifere), the band features a prominent rhythm section, a scattered assortment of time signatures, interwoven and complex arrangements, and bellowing death growls, akin to the output of Baring Teeth, Artificial Brain, and Gigan.

SUNLESS has performed across the central United States in support of their debut full-length album Urraca with like-minded bands such as Plebeian Grandstand, Suffering Hour, and Pyrrhon. Tracked by Adam Tucker at Signaturetone Recording (The Crinn, Ambassador Gun, Maeth) in their hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota and mixed/mastered by Colin Marston at Menegroth, The Thousand Caves in Queens, New York, Urraca delivers a relentlessly engaging onslaught of complex and dissonant death metal with nine tracks encompassing a dense forty-four minutes. The album is presented appropriately in a psychedelic and abstract visual manner with artwork by friend, lyricist, and former bandmate Andrew Notsch (Youwretch).

TRAIN BIGGER MONKEYS is an expression of society force fed life long corruption. Metal has a way of taking control, and TBM revels in the direction it takes them.

Formed in the winter of 2007, Train Bigger Monkeys have set out to destroy. With a sound that is both melodic and punishing, TBM has succeeded in creating music that melts faces and blasts minds. With a wide array of influences across numerous metal genres you get a taste of death, thrash, progressive, hardcore and straight up metal all rolled into one. Train Bigger Monkeys always bring an energy, technicality and a true passion to the stage that will challenge anyone not to get involved.

They have had the honour to share the stage with metal legends such as Massacre, Archspire, Incantation and Benighted, and have performed at multiple Death/Chuck Shuldiner tribute shows as well as Vernstock, Farmageddon Open Air, and Calgary Metal Fest. With 3 full length albums under their belts, and a line up that makes it look easy, the band is undoubtedly on their way to success with a sound that is constantly evolving and refining into something truly unique that can only be Train Bigger Monkeys.

Native American Brutal Death Metal originating from Morley, Alberta. Forming a blend of enormously punishing guitar riffs, rhythmic thundering of the drums, the pounding rumble of the bass, and the deep roaring vocals. Behold the bloodthirstiness of DETHGOD!

Formed in 2012, formally know as AFTERDEATH. In 2013, The band had changed its name to DETHGOD. Beginning at first as death metal with both melodic and brutal tone. Then developing more technical as the members grew as musicians. The music style has since progressed and evolved into a more darker sound to suit the band’s genre. They are currently a three-piece band as of 2017.

Wacken Metal Battle Canada: “We’re all very excited about the 2018 Metal Battle. After the pause from last year, we expect a good batch of quality submissions from across the country, both from existing bands that have been honing their craft, and from new bands that have emerged during the break. We’ve also made some tweaks to the round structure which will include a Western Final and Eastern Final leading up to the grand finale in Toronto. So it will be more of a hockey playoff style, which I think will work out better, with the Final being technically on neutral ground.”

Wacken Metal Battle CALGARY Rounds and Western Final TBA.

Canadian Final (West vs. East) June 9th, 2018 at The Opera House in Toronto.

“Often under-estimated, but always a force to be reckoned with. Canada has forged such heavyweights as Exciter, Annihilator, Skull Fist, Devin Townsend, Voivod, Anvil, Razor, Into Eternity and more. The Quebec region, renowned for their love of extreme metal, has spawned the likes of Kataklysm, Cryptopsy, Martyr, Gorguts and Quo Vadis. Not to mention an impressive new wave of modern metal including Alexisonfire, 3 Inches of Blood, Protest The Hero, Cancer Bats, Baptized In Blood and Despised Icon.

Canada continues to be a strong supporter in the global metal scene by offering such contributions as the Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles publication, filmmaker Sam Dunn’s series of Metal documentaries including the critically acclaimed Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey, and the Heavy MTL festival.

In 2013, Canada’s own Crimson Shadows were crowned the Metal Battle international winner. A feat not easily achieved, and one of which we take much pride. It launched the band to an international level and earned them a record contract with Napalm Records.

In 2015, Canada re-lived that success with Vesperia, once again taking the 1st place at Wacken. In 2016, Canada followed up with Profaner taking the 2nd place win.

The year 2018 will be Canada’s 5th participation in the Wacken Metal Battle and will include 13 major cities in total: Toronto, Hamilton, London, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Victoria and BC Interior. Canadian Final to be held on June 9th at The Opera House in Toronto.

Only the strongest of contenders will be chosen to participate, to yield one true champion, and represent their nation with highest honor at the Wacken Open Air Festival. Let the battle begin!”

In the studio with CMF V Charity Auction winners Concrete Funeral – October 2017

At the CMF Charity Auction during Calgary Metalfest V, the rapscallions in Concrete Funeral scored the deal of a century via a winning bid for 80 hours of studio time at Ghost Iron Studio. Last weekend we nailed down the drums in one day! Good job Connor! We are pumped to be working on this album and look forward to upcoming bass, guitar and vocal tracking. The proceeds of their bid went to Make-A-Wish Southern Alberta and I am excited to be adding production and engineering duties to the album. Stay tuned, this record will be a crusher! Big thanks to James Stanley for goin in on this with me, and for all of your help.

Divinity and Expain Dual Album Release Tour – September 2017

Now that I don’t feel like I got hit by a truck, I wanna send out my utmost gratitude to the boys in Divinity and Expain. They had the confidence to take me out on the road for the first time! Needless to say, everyone killed it and I feel lucky to have gotten to know all these gentlemen better. It was really refreshing and inspiring to work with people who see no problems, only solutions; and were constantly looking for feedback to improve the experience for them and the fans. 4/6 of the shows were in smaller markets, which was really cool! The promoters were all killer, the venues were great and the fans really go off. My pappy was a trucker so I really feel at home on the road. Not only did I mix front of house for both bands, but I was entrusted with tour managing, which is fun for me. I mean, who doesn’t wanna google “Innisfail rv dump”??!! My job was to make everybody’s life easier so that they could focus on playing and I really feel like I nailed that from their performances. Pretty amazing to go out on the road with 13 guys, for 6 days and not have a problem with one of them. It was literally a laugh a second and I would do it all again in a heartbeat. I must give them credit that they made my job SUUUPPERRR easy by being such high caliber acts that know what they want and destroy stages when they get it. FFS Sean Jenkins planned a darn light show for their set?!?!?! How cool is that??! I’ve know Brett and James since early 02 and I didn’t even know there’s was a 3rd Duncan, Kirk, so that was a surprise. Thanks for all your help and for not taking my resting, in-the-heat-of-the-moment setup face personally! I’ve mixed Ye Goat-Herd Gods a few times locally and met Gord a few times, but there’s nothing like getting to know someone better on the road, absolute pleasure man! The Divinity boys truly are consummate professionals of the highest order and take what they do very seriously, but still manage to stay grounded and not get in their own way and enjoy themselves. Expain is fun as hell and stupid high energy. It was really nice to meet Alexander Giles and watch him shred tf outta that fender every night. All in all, this was work. I was sweating, we were loading, there were a million variables, but when you’re doing something you love and have worked towards most of your life, it just seems effortless. After mixing probably 1000’s of acts now from only a few places its a whole new perspective to be doing it in a different place every night. Thanks Everybody! The Divinity / Expain Dual Release Tour! was great success!!

Run as One Music Festival – August 2017

On August 10th and 11th, 2017 Big Nate Productions had the honour and pleasure of providing production for the Run as One Music Festival, a free youth event put on by Siksika Health Services for the people of the Siksika Nation but open to anyone. I want to thank Siksika Councillor Carlin Black Rabbit for the recommendation, opportunity and trust with an event of this scale and importance. This event is put on in conjunction with their yearly PowWow at the Gordon Yellowfly Memorial Arbor.

It was a true honour to meet and work with new Siksika friends, while at the same time affording the opportunity to hang with old ones, in such an amazing setting and atmosphere. I was able to have my wife and daughter attend the festivities and it looks like we will be making it a yearly family event. Truly amazing to witness such a beautiful and vibrant people’s celebration of their amazing culture and traditions. Being the stage manager I didn’t get to see the PowWow at all this year, (I did last year, it was moving to say the least), but one performer performed in full traditional fancy-dancing regalia, and he was great. All the performances were. My family did get to see it all of the festivities however, and Dahlia cried that she couldn’t go back today. I kinda feel the same way.

Ethan and Von were a real surprise to meet and I am extremely glad I did. These guys were super-helpful, and not only did they bail me out constantly, they actively busted their humps to make the best possible show. Garrett was all out great tech, and Richard was my go to guy throughout this whole process. Thank you for your hospitality.

We had a real A-team happenin’ as far as crew went. Dave keeps paying attention, and is really gettin’ this stage thing nailed, very attentive; yer the best buddy. Michael and Jake were great and I didn’t think we’d be doin’ the round dance at the end. That’s a memory I’ll never forget. WOW am I a terrible dancer, but I can’t say I didn’t warn anyone haha.

Rad to be able to see Our Old Ways, Frightenstein, No More Moments, Iron Tusk – Band and The North Sound perform from the side of the stage rather than hearing them from behind a board! All the acts I had never seen before were killer too and great people. I will never forget your name again Buddy, I swear!

Sorry I whined about the rain during your Iron Tusk – Band set Carlin! I was paranoid about lightning!

Everyone needs to ask themselves what, who, when and where are/is a Tomahawk Bomb. They are the most exciting new band I’ve seen in years. Lets do a show!

I really felt energized and anew after this event. I don’t know if it was the challenge and complexity of this event, all the sun and amazing landscape, being around the best people I’ve ever met, or all of the above (it is), but this show was a milestone for me personally. I would gladly do this gig til I drop if they’d have me back.

To the Chief and Council, the people of Siksika Nation, Siksika Health Services, all the organizers, volunteers, attendees and anyone else who help put this event on:
